Patterned Minds!!

so, finally i've decided to write something serious...islie please shaanti k saath(no cliches) grahan karen..dhanyawad! an important baat, coherence is what i wanted write about...thanks to my english teacher who happens to be an almost PHD in environMENTAL chemistry and is a painter himself and is aptly coherent in everything else he does...cheers sir, hope u never latch onto this blog varna agle din meri vaat lagegi :D

when a child asks questions, why do you often get irritated. but then,
you've to be patient and so, you don't look as to why that
contemptible feeling crept in.
we as humans are not used to contiguousness, we can't live without a
coherence, a set pattern that replicates. when we have it, we are more
than happy but when we don't, we can't take it and start digging in to
find one, and perhaps end up inventing one to keep our sullen souls
pacified. our lives which we call 'busy' and 'hectic', the one full of
credit card numbers, electricity bills, the volume you hear on TV, the
best FM channel frequency, your girl-friend's cell number, even the
keys on your lappy(yeah, qwerty) are full of such patterns you have
created for your convenience. it sounds funny but we remember the
rainbow by VIBGYOR. go on try it...without the set pattern....yellow..ya what else?? :D

and a child's questions not only assault our comfort-zone but also
question us about our psych, how is it possible for a kid to do that.
when it does, the sought for defence mechanism in the form of anger,
disgust comes in handy.
we have been brought up like that. coherence has been taught to us in
the form of 'a for apple' and 'one two buckle my shoe' right since we
had started toddling. i'm no anthropologist, just an observer, who had
been made to think obliquely, though unintentionally but got around it
with slight bruises.

science today seems pretty easy, every formula is fixed, each ratio
standardized but when it comes to the universe, these calculative
nerds back off(well, i shouldn't say this but as of now, i'm one of
them). it is interesting though that they try to find the dimensions
of the heavens abound, state that it doesn't matter if mr.newton is
wrong, mr.xyz may be right. i'm not definitely not contradicting
anyone but i am holding the fort for those for whom pattern doesn't
come into the frame, the likes of picasso, einstein(the artist turned
scientist, violin anyone?), warren buffett(if you can play with
numbers and still look at the bigger picture, you are one of them).
we say on the contrary that art is shapeless. trying to find
archetypes and tesselations in an artist's work is in vain. how many
people saw dhobi ghat and liked it, frugal number yeah that is. but,
that was one true unadulterated work and i liked it for its
randomness. but then, there have been artists who've created a niche
for themselves using repititive thoughts and shapes. chetan bhagat,
with due regards to his talent, can be branded as one. indeed they are
artists because they can form something, for them the clouds do bear a
shape, but it is just an echo of what they have seen and heard and
felt.

but, then this changes the entire ballgame right! does any artist
imagine things unlike the way it has already been percepted by their
physical senses. what about james cameron's avatar, what about the
early man who got the wheel rolling. but now, we are talking about the
discoveries, inventions probably. science, is it the real art then? or
are we just hardwired to be in the replay mode and due to centuries of
rehearsal, just can't come out of it? but what about einstein and
pablo uncle?

there's a proverb in an indian dialect that one can keep on shooting
arrows in the dark expecting the next to hit the target. so, the
idiotic mind confesses that it's trying to do the same. finding
answers is difficult because we aren't used to thinking out of the
box. 'out of the box' is again a reiteration.
thus ends the war between scientists and artists until we get a 2 in 1...philips ne india ma apni dukaan band toh nai kari na??

so, i lose. let the real artists prevail!!
